It started raining in Dhaka early on Wednesday, raising fears of traffic disruptions after the heavy downpour on Tuesday flooded streets.

The met office says the rain might continue for the next few days.
Wednesday’s rain left some parts of Nazimuddin Road, Hazaribagh and Rayerbazar in the old part of the city waterlogged.
Streets in Dhanmondi, Mirpur Road, Sukrabad, Green Road, Farmgate, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Rampura and even in the northern ends like Khilkhet area and Uttara were also inundated.
Police fears traffic disruption like on Tuesday if the rains continue.
“We are yet to see a gridlock like Tuesday, but traffic is moving slowly as a lot of roads are under water,” Constable Kamrul Islam of Dhaka’s Traffic Control Room told bdnews24.com.  Read More … [/su_column] [/su_row]

Drawing parallels between the cold blooded killings of bloggers in Bangladesh and the murder of MM Kalburgi, a writer and rationalist from Karnataka, Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin said the incident showed the growing intolerance of religious fanatics in both India and Bangladesh.
"Is there no freedom of expression in India? It is supposed to be the largest democratic country and a secular one. In that case, why are rationalists being killed," asked Nasrin.
In an interview to IANS, the exiled author said it seems that Indian fanatics are taking a cue from Bangladeshi extremists. "Are Indian extremists learning from Bangladeshi extremists? Bangladeshi extremists kill writers who criticise religion. Indian extremists do the same," Nasrin said.
Expressing hope that the Indian government would rein in Kalburgi killers, Nasrin said that she was concerned about the earlier killings of the Indian rationalists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare

Nasrin is also happy about the newly-released film "Nirbashito", a story based on her life. Directed by Churni Ganguly, the movie is being released in the capital. "I am happy about the way it is made. Although it has not going into the details, it has done justice to my story," Nasrin said.

[su_row][su_column size= »1/3″]    [/su_column] [su_column size= »2/3″]  The government has designated 493 spots in Dhaka City Corporation area for animal slaughtering and requested citizens to use those during the Eid-ul-Azha.
“Initially we have fixed 285 spots in the Dhaka South and 208 in North,” said Local Government Division Secretary Abdul Malek on Thursday.
“The number may rise, but no one will be forced to use those spots.”
He added that 20 spots were designated in the Chittagong City Corporation.
A campaign will be run three days before the Eid to raise awareness, said Malek .
“The city corporation councilors will also run campaign.”
He said they would write to the religious affairs ministry and Islamic Foundation to instruct mosques to raise awareness.

Three children have been found in a critical condition.

Three children have been found in a critical condition after being rescued from a lorry in Austria that contained 26 migrants, police said.
The lorry was stopped in Braunau district and the Romanian driver was arrested after a chase.
Those inside were said to be from Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Separately, four men appeared in court in Hungary following the discovery of another truck in Austria last week containing the bodies of 71 people.
The three Bulgarians and an Afghan, who were arrested in Hungary, were remanded in custody until 29 September. Austria is expected to seek their extradition

Sixteen Bangladeshis have received the Chevening Scholarship Award to study in the UK this academic year, a big increase compared to four last year.
The British High Commission said High Commissioner Robert Gibson hosted a reception for them at his residence on Wednesday.
 Chevening is the UK government’s flagship international programme that allows “future leaders, influencers and decision-makers from around the world to learn, build on their experience and unleash their potential”, the High Commissioner said.
“They are joining an elite group of global future leaders,” he said.
